It’s been a huge week here in Madrid with visits to three great restaurants, all different but all really worth a visit. To top it off there was a fabulous party hosted by Grand Marnier, at the rooftop terrace of the Ada Palace hotel. The week started out with lunch at Mister Lee, , a small Asian restaurant within the Gourmet Experience section of El Corte Inglés on the Paseo de la Castellana. While the seating is limited to stools at the elegant bar and at the shared table, the menu is extensive with plenty of authentic dishes to choose from. I started off with some excellent sushi and followed that with a large bowl of noodles with chicken and a delightful satay sauce. The experience was topped off nicely with a cold bottle of Tsingtao. I’d been dying to try a newly opened restaurant near my office which specialises in Spanish tapas and wines. Vadebaco, is in Calle del Prado 4, very near Plaza Santa Ana. The delightful interior is where to get stuck into some fine tapas such as anchovies from the north of Spain, spicy Madrid-style tripe or mouth-watering fried cod. What I love about this restaurant is that there are  about 30 Spanish wines which can be enjoyed by the glass. The last stop on this culinary tour was one of Spain’s top Japanese restaurants. Nikkei 225, is in an elegant part of town at Paseo de la Castellana 15. The hot point is that the chef Luis Arevalo works with Japanese cuisine with a touch of Peruvian. The effect are spectacular. This is the place to head to for a top meal or to celebrate a special occasion. The elegant interior is divided into two sections, one which is inspired by London and the other by New York. My favourite dishes were the totally to die for sushi – one of which was topped with a sliver of foie gras and tiny pieces of raspberry. The others was a spicy soup filled with root vegetables and seafood. As a nod to Peru, dessert came in the form of a frozen Pisco liqueur tower. It was totally refreshing and the perfect ending. Summer is here in Madrid and that means enjoying drinks on rooftop terraces. Tuesday night saw a wow of a party organized by Grand Marnier at the Ada Palace Hotel on Gran Via. The rooftop terrace has to be one of the best in Madrid with spectacular views. We got to choose from six new Grand Marnier cocktails. My favourite included the GM along with a squeeze of lime and topped off with ginger ale. The perfect summer drink.
